If Tulsans want to take back our city, one of the most important opportunities is in District 6. East Tulsans have the chance to get rid of an arrogant incumbent who is a tool of the city establishment and bring in a man who will represent their best interests at City Hall.
Jim Mautino, the Republican nominee, is by far the best choice for the District 6 seat. Jim has been a tireless advocate for his part of town, working on zoning and planning issues to protect property values and the quality of life. Jim has persisted and more often than not prevailed because he knows the rules and does his homework, and he won't give up without a fight.
Jim retired a couple of years ago after nearly 40 years with American Airlines, and he's lived all that time and more at his house in Tower Heights neighborhood, with his wife of 50 years, Bonnie.
The incumbent, Art Justis, apparently doesn't have a problem with east Tulsa becoming one big concrete wasteland, and to the extent that he's done anything right (or even paid attention) on these issues, it's because of the persistence of Jim Mautino and his neighborhood allies.
More importantly for the rest of the city, Justis has been a consistent foe of fairness for neighborhoods throughout the city. He voted to prevent the 71st & Harvard neighbors from making their case to the City Council on the handling of their protest petition. Justis is a consistent vote against neighborhoods on contentious zoning issues. And Justis has never met a tax increase he didn't like; despite the opposition of his constituents, he supports every one of them. Justis likes to take credit for public works in the district, but it is by far the most underserved part of the city in terms of streets and parks.
Despite Justis' many years on the Council, this is a winnable seat for Jim Mautino. The district is majority Republican, and a Republican with no name recognition and not much of a campaign gave Justis a scare a few years ago. Jim Mautino is running a full-force campaign and can win this thing. But he needs your vote and your help. You can contact him via his website or by phone at 437-2642.
